Dual Battery System for an Early Model Toyota Prado

Auxiliary battery installation with rear sockets for camping accessories

To help our customer get ready for the next camping trip, an auxiliary battery system was installed and wired for this earlier model Toyota Prado.

The auxiliary battery runs power to three sockets in the rear of the vehicle. This allows a fridge or a

freezer to be constantly on. An extra power socket is used for connecting power to the external camping lights.

We've also installed a dual USB charging socket, ideal for charging devices such as smart phones and tablets.

A Redarc smart solenoid is fitted under the bonnet to protect the starting battery and preventing it going flat when power is being used from the auxiliary battery.

When the vehicle is driving, the solenoid will activate to charge the auxiliary battery.

How a dual battery system can bring value to your off-road or camping trip:

  • power a 12V portable fridge or freezer
  • charge your devices / gadgets / tools (phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, coffee machines or cordless drills)
  • travel to remote locations knowing you have back-up power
  • be self-sufficient with 12V power while camping
