Trailer Plugs
Professional Trailer Plug Supply & Installation
There are many types of trailer plugs available in Australia for towing your caravan.
The main purpose of the trailer plug is to transfer electrical power to the lighting system and electrical brake system of the towing vehicle(trailer, caravan, camper).
How each pin connects to the wiring will be different according to the type of plug and its manufacturer's diagram.
The most common trailer plugs in Australia are:
- The 7 pin trailer plug - small round and the 7 pin flat trailer plug (the latter used mostly on late model vehicles). There are also large round 7 pin plugs, usually suitable for heavy machinery and trucks.
The 12 pin trailer plug performs the same functions as the 7 pin trailer plug PLUS the ability to wire accessories. (See more info HERE) - The Anderson trailer plug is used to charge your caravan or trailer battery while you are driving (See more info HERE)
The 7 pin trailer plug is the standard solution for passenger cars when basic towing is applied. This means traditional box trailers, small boat trailers and situations where no other auto electrical accessories are needed other than the brake/tail and indicator lights.
The 7 pin trailer plug is used to connect the following between your car and the towed vehicle:
- Left-Hand Turn
- Reversing or Auxiliary Signal
- Earth Return
- Right-Hand Turn
- Service Brakes
- Stop Lamps
- Rear Lamps, Clearance and Side Marker Lamps
Our team of expert auto electricians can help you select the correct trailer plug for your vehicle and have it professionally installed for your next road trip.

The 12 pin rectangle trailer plug consists of a row of 7 pins and a row of 5 larger pins.

The larger pins are used for higher current most common to run power to a 12 volt fridge or to charge a battery system on a towing vehicle (caravan or camper trailer.)
